Thanks on Thanksgiving
Sponsored by
For all my American readers, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving yesterday!
Whether you are American or not, please know that I’m grateful for each and everyone of you and wish you the best. Profit+ is coming on 5 years now and many of you have been here since the start. Thanks for sticking around!
Thanksgiving is always one of my favorite days of the year. There’s something so relaxing and peaceful about it—a time to kick back, reconnect with family and friends, and remind ourselves what’s truly important in life. Maybe it’s the simplicity of it—just a day to gather with family and friends and practice gratitude—or it’s pure, non-commercial intent or just all the good food but it’s such a great day. It helps too that it was my hero, President Lincoln, who put the holiday on the calendar in the first place!
I know it’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday is around the corner but don’t let yourselves get too quickly re-hypnotize back into to the endless cycle of mass consumerism today. Of course, go ahead and take full advantage of any crazy deals out there—like the one below!—just don’t let yourself get too caught up in the hype. Remember, one of the biggest lies in the world today is that you can find psychological consolation from buying stuff. It’s just not true. Our only hope lies in working hard for the good of all.
I’ll be back next week with another podcast episode release and a full Friday edition. For now, I’ll leave you with a phenomenal Black Friday deal from my friends at Tovala—a company with an incredibly useful and healthy product, one that I’m proud to recommend.
This Black Friday, Tovala’s Smart Oven Is Free—and So Are You.
With Tovala, you’re not just fed—you’re free. Free from meal kit fails. Free from “gourmet” microwaved meals. Free from food delivery that delivers… to somebody else’s house. Free from the time-suck of cooking. Tovala’s smart oven and meal delivery frees you from all of that. And this Black Friday, they’re including their smart oven (a $299 value) for free when you sign up for meals.
Instead of dreading the “What’s for dinner?” question, you can enjoy a freshly cooked meal without compromising on quality, taste, or your precious time. (We think you deserve all those good things.)
With Tovala, chef-crafted meals arrive fresh to your door and cook themselves in their smart oven with just the scan of a QR code.
Don’t sleep on it—claim yours now at Tovala.com and use code BLACKFRIDAY24 at checkout.

Photographer: Paul Nicklen
If you are looking for a wholesome break from doomscrolling during the holiday season, Paul’s work is a great place to turn. His animal and nature shots have a way of reminding you of the immense majesty of Nature, just how big the world is, and how little of it we can actually experience. Unlike typical scrolling, there’s something meditative and uplifting about browsing through his work.
Sculpturer: Do Ho Suh
Sculpture: Karma
I don’t know about you all but I really believe in the idea of karma. While it never quite works how you expect, karma always seems to come through in the end.
This statue is such a provocative visual representation of karma because it reminds us of a truth: that we weave our own webs of pain and joy—psychologically at least—and as we move through life and the weight of our choices accumulates on our shoulders, it can be blinding and disorienting. Things can get heavier and heavier under the weight of karma and hold us back from standing tall as our true selves. Suh’s art reminds us that we best be careful in the choices we make.
Finally, in the spirit of the holiday week, I’d like to share with you these words from Lincoln’s official communication announcing the Thanksgiving holiday:
“It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation, and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.”
Could you imagine a President speaking in terms like these today? Me neither but I sure wish someone would!
