🎧 New Episode with Raul Torrez

🎧New podcast episode This week we are welcoming another old law school friend of mine to the show—Raul Torrez, the Attorney General for the State of New Mexico and a rising star in the Democratic Party. A former District Attorney and White House Fellow during the Obama Administration, Raul is someone who has completely dedicated his life to public service and I wanted to have him on the show to get his insider perspective on our increasingly contentious legal and political landscape here in America.

As I’m sure you are all aware by now, we are living in extremely interesting and consequential times when it comes to the Constitutional legal landscape. Every couple of weeks it seems another long-standing precedent is being challenged, altered, or even overturned outright by an rather active Supreme Court. We’ve already seen controversial rulings on big issues like abortion, affirmative action, voting rights, and free speech and there are more coming. At the same time, our leaders have finally woken-up to problems like systemic racism in policing and our massive prison-industrial complex problem and have been experimenting with things like bail reform (which doesn’t seem to be working) and alternative policing (which does seem to be working). I wanted to have Raul on the show to get his perspective on all this because he’s someone who engages with these ideas day-in and day-out at the highest possible level.

In this important, timely conversation we discuss big issues like criminal justice reform, immigration policy, and voting rights and examine the legal, political, and constitutional contours of the big debates of the day. We also discuss what it’s it like to be a prosecutor and Attorney General and examine the critical roles these offices play in our Democracy. This is an episode that is full of insight and ideas so I encourage you all to pay close attention. Raul shares some pretty powerful counter-narrative ideas when it comes to issues like criminal justice reform, prosecutorial discretion, and the role that the law can play in shaping American society.

As always, thanks for tuning-in and Hope you enjoy!Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Amazon Music, or on your favorite podcast platform.
